“I am a creative explorer with a curiosity for the human experience & processes of meta-cognition.

Laura Hogan is an American artist currently living and creating in Moscow, Russia. Laura graduated in 2016 from Marylhurst University in Portland Oregon with a Fine Arts degree in drawing, painting, and sculpture. She also acquired a minor in Neuropsychology. Laura has shown in galleries around the world including Ireland, London UK, New York USA, Oregon USA, and Moscow RU. She has been featured on Speak For Change Podcast discussing How The Arts are Essential for Humanity and The Brain. Her paintings have been published in International magazines such as Artmosphere magazine and Bluebee Magazine (Pg.59). Last February, Laura participated in Art Russia 2020. She has since become exclusively represented worldwide by Art center Exposed.

With her background of interdisciplinary studies in fine art and neuropsychology, Laura’s artistic development is braided between her life-long curiosity for phenomenology and the subjective nature of the shared human experience. While her work has evolved over time to cover many mediums, its intent has always been to inspire conversations about the subjective realities created by the human mind. She is most inspired by the studies of fundamental physics and neuroscience, focusing particularly on theoretical and particle physics, as well as brain science. Laura believes; “Between these theoretical and microscopic spaces, all experience of reality and communication is made possible”.

Laura describes her work as artistic depictions of action potentials (thoughts) in the brain, traveling from one neuron to the next through synaptic clefts via a process called neurotransmission. Through these creations, Laura explores subjects dealing with space, time, and thought. Once a piece is presented, the viewer is responsible for generating their own interpretation. This is what is referred to in physics as, complementarity – taking different perspectives into account. “You can recognize a deep truth by the feature that its opposite is also a deep truth” -Frank Wilczek (Nobel prize winning physicist).

The goal of Laura’s work is to inspire her viewers to better understand the differences in human perspective. She encourages seeing one another’s points of view more clearly, while delving deeper into the relativity of spacetime through the mind in order to illuminate the endless interpretations derived from a single work of art.
